BlueCut Glasses
PTS Staff
We ask a lot of our sports glasses – they need to be comfortable, affordable, protect our eyes from flying pickleballs (and partner’s paddles), and provide ultra-clear “4K” vision on the court. BlueCut Glasses has stepped up to the line with their affordable range of prescription and non-prescription eyewear.
I tested both the Steph and Leo models, and the first thing I noticed was how lightweight and comfortable they were. The included straps hold them securely without feeling tight, and the flexible polycarbonate frames have just enough give to stay put without pinching. It’s easy to forget you’re wearing them, which lets you focus on the game rather than your gear. Both models also come with a lens cloth, anti-fog spray, and a hard-shell case for keeping them safe inside a crowded pickleball bag.
The Leo is a shield-style frame with a mirrored lens. Ventilation slits near the bottom corners help manage fog, while a soft silicone nose pad prevents pressure on your bridge. The wraparound design offers full coverage and UV protection. They offer a fun, futuristic look that will surely intimidate your opponents across the net! If ordered with a prescription, the Leo uses a removable insert that fits behind the main lens. I found this insert not ideal for pickleball since the edges interfered with lower peripheral vision that’s critical for dinking. However, this setup works great for other activities like cycling, hiking, or water sports.
The Steph is a more traditional full-frame style, with the prescription (if needed) built directly into the primary lens. For pickleball, I’d recommend a distance-only prescription lens over progressives, which can cause distortion and depth perception issues. It might mean you have a pair of glasses (or two) dedicated just for pickleball, but isn’t pickleball worth it? I selected the non-polarized G15 green lens. The dark green tint reduces glare without dulling court lines, and really makes a neon green pickleball pop! I found the quality and clarity to be excellent across the entire lens. Indoors or in hot and sweaty conditions, the optional FogEX™ ventilation feature has kept fogging from being a problem, something I’ve struggled with in other glasses.
All of BlueCut’s sports glasses meet ANSI Z87.1 safety standards, which is reassuring given the number of near-misses I’ve witnessed over the years. It’s also worth noting their background: more than 40 years in eyewear, an in-house lab, and optometrists guiding their designs, all backed by a two-year warranty and money-back guarantee. It feels like a thoughtful product from a company that understands athletes and eyewear.
