Winter Pickleball Players in Etobicoke: Passionate or Off-Kilter?

By Marc Petruccelli

What should pickleball players do following an epic snowfall, when COVID has shut down all indoor courts? If you’re in Etobicoke, you grab a shovel – lots of shovels – a snow blower or two, ice picks, some brooms and, well, you shovel the courts.

Monday, a mid-January snowfall dumps 36cm (14") of snow in Toronto. First, you spend 3 hours shoveling your own driveway that evening. Then you rest.

Tuesday morning, you grab your gear and join your fellow 60- and 70-somethings to spend five hours shoveling five tennis courts in Central Etobicoke.

And when you’re done? First, you make snow angels. Then, you play pickleball – of course!

Passionate? Off-Kilter? Perhaps a bit of both? Happy to be playing and playing to be happy.

For the love of Pickleball.
