Our friends from East Africa Racket Sport Club and at the Confederation of African Pickleball were excited to tell us about their successful Tournament, and how pickleball as a sport is really expanding across Africa.

Pickleball, once a well-kept secret among sports enthusiasts, has swiftly transformed into a global phenomenon, captivating players of all ages and skill levels. Since 2020, pickleball has experienced remarkable growth in Africa, and now, its burgeoning popularity has found a vibrant home there, with countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Africa emerging as hotspots for the fastest-growing sport on the continent.

In those countries, pickleball has transcended cultural and geographic boundaries, finding its way into local communities, schools, and sports clubs. This surge in popularity can be attributed to the sport’s easy-to-learn nature and adaptability, making it an ideal choice for individuals of varying ages and skill sets.

The inaugural Tanzania Open Pickleball Tournament, hosted by the East Africa Racket Sports Club at the Onnela Finnish Guest House, unfolded as a resounding success from the 1st to the 3rd of December. This historic event drew participants and spectators alike from Tanzania and surrounding countries, showcasing the growing regional prominence of pickleball.
