Pickleball Festival Raises $14,000 for Breast Cancer Patience Assistance Fund

Huntsville Pickleball Club, along with Huntsville Hospital and Huntsville Parks and Recreation, hosted the first annual Pickleball on the Moon Festival the weekend of April 29 - May 1 at the Sandra Moon Community Complex in Huntsville, Alabama. The festival featured open play, round robin skill level competitions, individual skill competitions, a local celebrity round robin, equipment demos, health and wellness seminars, and a group exercise class geared toward pickleball conditioning.

Throughout each day tickets were sold for chances to win incredible prizes including brand name paddles, ticket packages to baseball games, gift cards to area restaurants, and gift baskets from local businesses. The top prize was lunch for four with Huntsville’s own astronaut Jan Davis. Each registered player received five complimentary chance to win tickets, a water bottle and t-shirt with festival logo, an outdoor pickleball, and free refreshments throughout the weekend.

The festival raised $14,000 for the Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, a subsidiary of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation. This fund supports those going through breast cancer treatment by providing patients with financial assistance for house payments, utility bills, car payments, groceries, or other essential expenses during a time when their finances are certainly strained and their ability to work is challenged. Breast cancer is one of the most expensive cancers to treat.

The second annual Pickleball on the Moon Festival is already being planned for April, 2023.
