Mother/Daughter Event Inspires the Next Gen of Women Players
How do we get the next gen on the court playing pickleball? A Mother/Daughter play date dedicated to mothers or aunts or other women plus a younger player, good snacks, sunshine, and 8 pickleball courts. This scenario drew approximately 24 mothers sporting their daughters or nieces, or in a couple of instances, their daughter’s best friend, to Bitter Lake pickleball courts in North Seattle on Sunday, September 10th.
For two hours, the newer players got some instruction, either from their mom or the non-moms recruited to assist with play for the day. Some play, a game of "run-around Sue," plenty of hydration breaks, and a raffle of two paddles to a couple of lucky players. Lots of laughing, a few confessions of “I played in grade school, but now I want to play more!” confirmed that we were on the right track. This event was funded by Women in Sports + Events of Seattle, showing the way to getting younger women on the pickleball court.
Each month we'll be on the lookout for fun and interesting PlayTime Scheduler sessions to highlight in our newsletter. We'd love to hear what your local players are up to – email us at admin@playtimescheduler.com to tell us all about it!
