Thank you for your interest in forming a pickleball club at Eastern Oak Park! We had over 190 people sign up either at the courts or on this website. Feel free to share the link!
Elizabeth and I started playing pickleball in April and thought it would be great if the courts had some kind of advocacy and fundraising organization( both for our courts and for youth sports in all of our areas). While playing at Eastern Oak, we met Reine Steel who is the USA Pickleball Association Ambassador for our area, and current board member of Sunrise Pickleball Club. The three of us met with Barry Ross, Recreation Superintendent of Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District and we wanted to provide you with an update on how things are progressing.
Barry said that the district was excited that a club is in the process of forming. They were hoping that a group would come together to take an interest in maintaining the courts, help manage play, and basically act as a go-between the players and the district. We talked about our intentions including promoting the sport, organizing club only play times, hosting tournaments, and advocating/fundraising for court improvements such as shade structures and lights. Barry was very responsive and thought that a lot of what we wanted aligned with the wants of the district.
Since the courts were completed over a year prior to the park dedication, the courts are due to be re-surfaced by the district. The district has committed to resurfacing every 3-5 years and maintaining the outside grounds. However, they will expect the club to pay for replacement nets and fundraise towards other desired improvements such as lights, since budgets are always an issue. As for lights, the district thinks this is a possibility, however, approval will have to go through the public input process. We hope to get this process started as soon as we can.
It will take some planning/organizing, but we hope to have the club up and running by January 1st so we can start accepting members. Obviously, there is a lot to do to get to that point, but we hope to hold an organizational meeting in the next month or two to discuss/vote on the yearly dues, board members, by-laws, etc. We will eventually have to form a 501 (c) 7 non-profit organization. If you have expertise in these areas, let us know!
Thanks again for your interest. If you have any questions, or just want to help, the club email address is email@example.com. We hope to see you at a future meeting and on the courts!

On February 24, 2018, Eastern Oak Park held its grand opening and unveiled 6 new pickleball courts. These are the first and only dedicated public courts in the Arden/Carmichael area. Mission Oaks park district has encouraged players to form a club so that we can more effectively manage court use and advocate for our collective interests. Some of our goals are to organize drop-in play times, plan tournaments and clinics, and raise funds for facility maintenance and improvements (such as benches and shade structures).
